LCIA European Users' Council Symposium at SUD LISBOA HALL, Lisbon - Saturday 15 April 2023

A morning symposium followed by lunch at SUD LISBOA HALL, focusing on international commercial arbitration and following the IBA Annual International Arbitration Day 2023. 

Symposium format

Based on the interactive and engaging format that LCIA symposia are famous for- 'Tylney Hall' style discussion, this event is designed to provide an opportunity for delegates to share news and views on developments in the field of international commercial arbitration and ADR.

Delegates will be invited to submit topics to be discussed on the day, under the expert guidance of well-known leaders in our field. Panellists will then introduce current issues before the floor is open to discussion with the audience.

The symposium will be held under the Chatham House Rule to facilitate an open and honest discussion.

Who should attend?

Arbitrators, in-house counsel, practitioners, academics and members of the local and international business community interested in, and affected by, current developments and best practice in the field of international arbitration.

On the day, delegates will be encouraged to participate in a free flowing discussion of the topics submitted under the expert guidance of the Co-Chairs.

12.30 - 13.00 Fireside: The Arbitration Act 1996 

Following a period of review The Law Commission of England and Wales has published a consultation paper on the Arbitration Act 1996. The aim of the review was to “enhance the experience for those who choose to arbitrate in England and Wales and maintain English law as the gold standard in international arbitrations”. This session will provide an opportunity to discuss the key proposed reforms.

SUD LISBOA HALL is located 1km from the Lisbon Congress Centre (the venue for the IBA Arbitration Day), in the riverside area of Lisbon, on the Avenida Brasilia, looking straight out onto the river Tagus and the Ponte 25 de Abril, about 5 km from the city centre. In this prime location you can find historical monuments, museums and cultural centres like the Jerónimos Monastery, Museu dos Coches, the Cultural Centre of Belém, amongst others. Belém has the greenery of the gardens, the freshness of the fountains and the breeze of the Tagus river. 

24th Annual IBA Arbitration Day

Preceding the LCIA Symposium, the LCIA is pleased to support the 24th Annual IBA Arbitration Day which will take place at the Lisbon Congress Centre from 13 - 14 April 2023, on International arbitration in a divided world: a challenge to the system’s legitimacy. These events are designed to work in harmony with the LCIA Symposium providing the perfect forum in which to continue the discussions. Find out more here.

CPD/CLE

Following the event, the LCIA will be pleased to provide attendees a certificate of attendance which, subject to the exact CPD/CLE requirements of the attendee's jurisdiction, may be used to obtain accreditation.
 

COVID 19 – Measures and Requirements

For the protection and wellbeing of all participants, there may be measures in place including, but not limited to, COVID 19 self-testing (lateral flow - rapid antigen tests) prior to arrival. Please note all requirements are subject to change to reflect the evolving situation with the ongoing pandemic and delegates will be kept informed.
 

Cancellation Policy and Terms & Conditions

If written cancellation is received by the LCIA by 27 March 2023, the registration fee will be refunded less 20% administration charge. For cancellations between 27 March 2023 and 31 March 2023 the registration fee will be refunded less 50%. For cancellations after 1 April 2023 we regret that no refund can be made.
