LSE-LCIA London Vis Pre-Moot: Volunteer as a Pre-Moot Arbitrator, 5-7 March 2021
The London School of Economics (LSE) and London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) annual London Vis Pre-Moot will take place virtually between Friday 5 and Sunday 7 March 2021.
We are looking for Arbitrators both experienced and new to support the Pre-Moot, which is an important fixture and training opportunity in the law student calendar, in the lead up to the annual Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna (Vis Moot) - also to a be held virtually in 2021.
This will be the first time the LSE-LCIA London Vis Pre-Moot has taken place virtually. We have taken the opportunity presented by this change to increase capacity and, by virtue of the virtual format, international diversity of both university teams and volunteer arbitrators. The virtual Vis Pre-Moot will give students the advantage of practising in the same format as the main Vis Moot event and enable volunteer arbitrators to conduct a hearing without any travel required.
Volunteers will act as arbitrator in three member tribunals; Claimant and Respondent teams will present their arguments, generally first addressing jurisdictional issues and subsequently the merits of the case. Each team has 30 minutes to present its case. Arbitrators may ask questions during the presentations or thereafter and are requested to mark the overall performance of each speaker. Arbitrators will be provided with a virtual delegate pack which will contain the full timetable of pleadings and a copy of the problem.
