The 35th Annual Freshfields Arbitration Lecture in conjunction with the Queen Mary School of International Arbitration was held virtually on Wednesday 3 December 2020. The timing and topic of the lecture could not have been better, given the imminent arrival on the Friday before of the long awaited Halliburton vs Chubb decision - which will undoubtedly contain topics and themes that are echoed in the Freshfields Lecture, presented this year by our Director General, Professor Dr Jacomijn van Haersolte-van Hof on ‘Impartiality and Independence: Fundamental and Fluid’.

Australian Arbitration Week 2020 and the ACICA/CIArb Australia International Arbitration Conference 2020

The LCIA is pleased to be a supporting organisation for Australian Arbitration Week 2020 (AAW2020). The AAW2020 will run the week of 12 October 2020 and feature a full calendar of events which is available to view on the AAW website. The LCIA is also pleased to be supporting the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Australia (CIArb Australia) for their 2020 International Arbitration Conference. This event will be held virtually and launch AAW2020. It will focus on arbitration and the new normal with a variety of speakers featuring from across Australia and around the world.

Join the LCIA’s Director General, Professor Dr Jacomijn van Haersolte-van Hof for the Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL), fifth annual conference on international arbitration. The conference will take place virtually this year on the 9 – 11 October 2020. The event is titled ‘Riding New Tides: Arbitration in a Changing World’ and will feature three different panel discussion with a variety of speakers. Following the release of the Cross-Institutional Task Force Report in July 2020 in which the LCIA contributed, ICCA and ICSID are collaborating to host a webinar. It is scheduled to take place on 3 September 2020 and will provide an overview of the Report and its findings, and address the perspectives of three key stakeholders: parties, arbitral institutions and co-arbitrations. Join our Director General Professor Dr Jacomijn van Haersolte-van Hof for the launch of Young Mute-Off Thursdays on Thursday 27 August 2020. Young Mute-Off Thursdays is the younger sister of Mute-Off Thursdays, which is a weekly 30-min networking and knowledge exchange series held over VC. It is open to all female arbitration practitioners under 7-PQE around the world. Each week a woman in arbitration will be featured, who will give a short presentation about an issue in which she encountered in her practice or development in the law, or a soft-skill topic. Each session will allow sufficient time for Q&A/discussion between attendees.
