23rd Annual IBA Arbitration Day

The IBA held their 23rd Annual Arbitration Day at the Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul. This year’s event focussed on the theme of Innovation 360: new and novel ideas for the practice of arbitration – critically tested. There were a series of panels throughout the day with each one presenting a new idea that challenged a key aspect in the way in which international arbitration is currently practiced.

The LCIA was pleased to support Universidad Panamericana's 7th Conference on International Arbitration and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The Program of the Conference provided a forecast of the post COVID-19 era for arbitration, an account of the interplay between international contract law instruments and the cross-fertilization of the commercial and sports arbitration practices. IFCAI's 1st Webinar - 16th Biennial Conference 2022

The International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI) First Webinar Conference entitled: "The Wind of Reforms of Major Institutional Rules" featured LCIA Deputy Director General, Jamie Harrison, who spoke about LCIA Innovative Reform on unauthorised change of a party's representative and its general guidelines. He was joined by other key-worldwide arbitration institutions and key-speakers delivering interventions on the insertion, conduct and implementation of some of the latest innovations in the field of arbitration and the reform of their institutional rules.

Arbitration Act 1996 at 25

The Arbitration Act came into force on 31 January 1997. Exactly 25 years later, this special joint event celebrated its success and considered what the future may hold for the Act. There were presentations offering differing perspectives, past and present, as well as a debate "This House believes that the Arbitration Act 1996 remains best in class". LCIA Director General, Professor Dr Jacomijn van Haersolte-van Hof, LCIA Chairman of the Board, Audley Sheppard QC and LCIA President of the Court, Paula Hodges QC spoke alongside a host of leading international arbitration experts.
